Eumelanin and pheomelanin concentrations in human
May 2005
By contrast, based on measurements of eumelanin and pheomelanin in human skin, before and following irradiation, we now report that both pheomelanin and eumelanin are positively related to skin colour, and by inference, inversely with cancer susceptibility.

Low intensity laser therapy for chronic venous leg ulcers
May 2002
66 nursing standard october 6/vol14/no3/1999 Venous disease, as a cause of ulceration, accounts for up to 90 per cent of all chronic wounds of the lower extremity (Baker et al 1991). The prevalence of venous ulceration has been well researched and documented.

Metal binding by melanins: studies of colloidal dihydroxyindole-melanin, and its complexation by Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions
Szpoganicz, B. / Gidanian, S. / Kong, P. / Farmer, P. , Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry , Apr 2002
Melanins are colloidal pigments known to have a high affinity for metal ions. In this work, the nature of the metal-binding sites are determined and the binding affinities are quantified. Initial potentiometric titrations have been…

Is alopecia areata a psychosomatic disease?
Misery, L. / Rousset, H. , La Revue de Medecine Interne , Mar 2001
Introduction. – Destruction of hair follicles by lymphocytes induces alopecia aerata. Hence, immunological mechanisms are involved in this disease, as for numerous dermatoses. Nonetheless, alopecia aerata appears to be a psychosomatic…

D’Amico-Martel, A. / Van De Water, T.R. / Wootton, J.A.M. / Minor, R.R., Developmental Biology, Apr 1987
We have investigated the temporal relationship between the morphological differentiation of the mouse otic capsule and the pattern of collagen synthesis by mouse otocyst-mesenchyme complexes labeled in vitro. In 10.5- to 12-day embryos the…

Lash, J.W. / Saxen, L., Developmental Biology, May 1972
Chondrogenic tissues from 5 to 8.5-wk-old human embryos were exposed in vitro to the teratogenic drug thalidomide. The results suggest that a major site of action of thalidomide is upon tissue associated with the mesonephros. Human…
